(All Grade Level Workshops)

The following workshops are available for all elementary grade levels (K-6). However, because the topics are presented differently for different age groups, we still highly recommend grouping your students into groups of K-2 or 3-6.

Forces of Flight - This uplifting class introduces students to the basics of flight and aerodynamics. Children will explore the 4 forces behind aerodynamics: lift, thrust, gravity, and drag, by building various plane designs that relate to the four forces, including the Delta Dart and EverGlider.

Amazing Atmosphere- Students will gain an understanding of the importance of our planet's atmosphere for life on Earth, and compare the composition of Earth's atmosphere with those of other planets in the solar system. Students learn what it takes to make a planet viable for life as we know it, explore the effects of atmospheric particles on the color of sunsets and rainbows, and study the optical properties of a turbulent atmosphere.

Super Solar System - Our first class in our "Future Space Explorers Academy" program, Students set off on a voyage to discover our Solar System. Students impersonate the planets to compare their sizes and distances from the Sun, recreate a solar and lunar eclipse, and become particles on a voyage into a planet’s core. Students will build a planetary mobile throughout the class that they will get to take home.

Sun & Other Stars - Students will investigate our closest star - Our Sun, as well as other stars and the galaxies they form. Children will explore stellar life cycles, create new solar systems, and make their own constellations.

Space Spectacles -Students will explore the spectacular events that take place in the night sky. Kids will create their own impact craters and play a friendly game of satellite tag designed to teach them about reflected light, and observe how (and what materials are used) for a comet to form right before their eyes.

Life in Space - Students will explore the spectacular events that take place in the night sky. Kids will create their own impact craters and play a friendly game of satellite tag designed to teach them about reflected light, and observe how (and what materials are used) for a comet to form right before their eyes.

Slippery Science - This class demystifies one of the most fascinating and beneficial molecules known to mankind…. Polymers. Students will learn about this amazing substance while making our very own Magic Science slime to compete in our Slime Olympics! They will take home their slime concoctions at the end of the class.

The Dirt on Garbage - Become a caretaker of the earth and get a hands-on look at ways to help reduce our garbage, re-use what we cannot reduce, and create ways to recycle! Hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations will illustrate to students their role in improving the planet.

WORKSHOP TOPICS

(3rd - 6th Grade Workshops)

Fun Fliers - Fun Fliers is the follow-up class to Forces of Flight (see K-6 workshops below.) Students will dive deeper into aerodynamics and greatly expand their plane-building skills that are too difficult for the younger age groups, Students will walk away from this course with an abundance of basic knowledge in aircraft, gravity, and aerodynamics.

Facts of the Matter - Learn about molecules and how they are held together, and see the dramatic differences between physical and chemical changes.

Electricity -Take a tour on the electron freeway! Conductors, insulators, transistors, and other elements in the world of circuit electricity introduce themselves to you through fun, hands-on experiments and demonstrations.

Mad Minerals -  In this workshop we'll learn about the 3 main classes of rocks - Sedimentary, Metamorphic, and Igneous, and recreate the process of rock formations and more.

Black to Blue Oceans - Students will learn about dilution, and how oil spills affect our environment. Then groups will devise and test oil spill techniques in a minor oil spill.

Our Workshops are designed to be appropriate for a variety of different age/grade levels. Most will be for either K-2nd grade or 3-6th grade groups, but others will be appropriate for K-6, though we do not recommend having all ages in the same class as they will learn and conduct the activities differently depending on their ages. You can see the different topics we offer below listed under their appropriate grade levels:

BECAUSE LEARNING SHOULD BE FUN!

(K-2nd Grade Workshops)

Amazing Air - The science of air has never been so much fun! Kids will be amazed at the power of air and how we use it everyday. They will Use a vortex generator, watch an aluminum can implode, and make their own paper helicopters to take home.

The 5 Senses - Explore the 5 senses that connect us to the outside world. Test your vision with optical illusions, try your hand and reading Braille, and experiment with hearing.

Dinosaurs - What are dinosaurs, really? Learn what it really takes to be called a dinosaur, and the differences between herbivore and carnivore teeth before you make your own tooth cast to take home. We'll finish up our class by trying our hands at Paleontology and conduct a dinosaur dig!
